Pronto deploys fully secure Wi-Fi at Vellore (VIT) Campus

Sets design excellence standard by successfully installing its UniFi WiFi Operating Support System for the 250 acre education campus

Bangalore, May 4, 2009: Pronto Networks has now made secure campus WiFi networks in India a reality. The company has successfully installed its UniFi OSS (Operation Support System) in the 250 acre campus of VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology). Situated in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, VIT is one of India’s leading technology colleges with a student strength of 13,500.

According to Jasbir Singh, CEO, Pronto Networks, “Pronto Networks stepped in with its customizable wireless network package, a solution which includes subscriber provisioning, authentication and billing. By successful deployment of our solution at VIT, we have provided a reference design and an excellent case study for educational campuses across India.” The Pronto UniFi OSS and Pronto Service Gateway (PSG) installed at the campus, provide a network that is fully equipped against external security threats.

Srikanth P, CEO, Vellore Online Systems, shares, “Pronto Networks’ OSS meets our requirements of security, bandwidth management and billing. Its differentiators in security are its advanced features such as CALEA (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Agencies), which helps in user-specific tracking of URLs visited and UniFi Inspect, which prepares user-friendly reports of browsing trends. The demand for such secure WiFi networks in India was highlighted after the network security breaches done by extremists in the terror attacks in Mumbai, India’s financial capital.”

Pronto Networks’ solution adheres to the security guidelines set by the Indian Ministry of IT & Communications, post the Mumbai Terror attacks in Nov 2008.
