Pronto's WiFi Solutions for Small Retail Locations

Boingo enabled Pronto Hotspot

Program Highlights

The Pronto WiFi Hotspot (“PWH”) enables retail outlets to offer a managed WiFi service offering to their patrons at an affordable cost. The program allows store owners (“retailer”) to offer a secure, reliable, WiFi service that is integrated with Boingo's retail offerings, including Boingo Unlimited (monthly subscription), and Boingo AsYouGo (24 hour pass at a single location) retail offering.

Retailers can offer a carrier-class managed WiFi service while defraying a portion of their operating costs. PWH Users who sign up for a Boingo account from PWH will be able to access Boingo’s global network according to the terms of their selected Boingo plan. For avoidance of doubt, retailer’s relationship will be solely with Pronto Networks, and Boingo will not be a party to any contract between retailer and Pronto Networks.

The retailer requests the PWH by submitting an online application on the Pronto website. The application includes the terms and conditions of the service. The initial payment, for the Pronto Point Service Controller (PPSC) hardware and the initial three months of service, is billed to valid credit card provided by the retailer. The retailer overlays the WiFi service offering on an Internet connection that has been acquired separately by the retailer. The PWH service is designed to work on any commercial DSL, Cable Modem, or private network based Internet connection.

Users are requested to enter their Boingo username/password to obtain access to the Internet. New users are provided the choice of signing up for a Boingo monthly account, “Boingo Unlimited” or a day pass account, “Boingo AsYouGo”. A portion of the initial sign up fee is remitted back to the retailer for each newly registered Boingo user.

The PWH allows location owners to utilize the Pronto Managed Service without the necessity of learning how to operate and support their own WiFi business.

Owners of a single location can finally leverage a fully managed solution in which Pronto takes on the role of a WiFi provider to provide a full end-to-end solution that is a perfect fit for small footprint venues such as coffee shops and quick service restaurants.

Amenity WiFi at Pronto Hotspot

Program Highlights

A growing trend in WiFi is the growth of Amenity WiFi Or Free WiFi. The increase in demand for WiFi at retail locations such as coffee shops, quick service restaurants, grocery stores, etc. have resulted in proprietors being required to offer WiFi more as an amenity than as a pay-as-you-go type service. More patrons use free WiFi as a convenience criteria in making their choices of establishments.

As a result, location owners are continually looking to reduce the operating costs of a managed WiFi service. Offering an unmanageable WiFi service has it risks, since reputation of an unreliable connectivity can spread quickly. A managed WiFi service, on the other hand, offers a low cost option that allows establishments to offer this amenity to their customers with the service monitoring and assurance that matches the quality of large scale carrier WiFi deployments.

Operating Costs can be reduced by increasing the options by which Internet access can be provided. The Pronto Point can be connected over a dynamically assigned IP address, thus allowing the use of even consumer grade DSL. Since typical hotspots require a leased line or a statically assigned IP address from the Internet Service Providers, the cost of a managed free WiFi service can be prohibitive since proprietors don't have the luxury of charging patrons extra for the WiFi service.
