| The Pronto Service Gateway (PSG), a component of the UniFi Converged Services Suite, is similar in functionality to the Pronto Service Controller but intended for large-scale deployments, such as multi-campus enterprise deployments or citywide broadband wireless networks. The PSG provides WLAN service control, user management, captive portals, support for numerous authentication methods, IP routing, and support for multiple VLANs. In 3G/4G private tunneling applications, these VLANs can be configured to serve individual user QoS, custom Login Pages, Prepaid Time and Volume based plans, and bandwidth partitions for mobile users connecting from across the 3G/4G network. The PSG runs on a Linux Platform and manages subscriber services for the wireless network. The PSG also manages user traffic on the Wide Area Network (WAN) interface and quality of service for WLAN users by efficiently managing the available bandwidth at the per session level. The PSG gateway authenticates access and administers special service realms, splash pages, etc. by working in tandem with the Pronto UniFi OSS. The PSG requires a corresponding OSS license or a Pronto Managed Services Platform agreement for proper operation.
The PSG has been certified to work on off-the shelf Linux Platforms as the HP Thin Client T5740. The Pronto Networks PSG Embedded License is a firmware image that can be installed on a Linux Server meeting Pronto Networks minimum hardware requirements. The server can be acquired separately by the customer. The PSG-EL concurrent user license represent concurrent session capacity which can be utilized by any IP enabled device on a public or private wireless network. Pronto Networks has designed this product to allow customers to leverage existing network hardware or select their own hardware to provide the same functionality as the Pronto Service Gateway. This gives service providers the flexibility of scaling up the concurrent session capacity as the network grows without limiting them to the capacity of available network controllers on the market.
The PSG-EL can be configured in the Pronto OSS similar to the PSC. Software License fees and Managed Services Platform (MSP) fees are based on the number of concurrent users. The default license included in the image is for 2 concurrent users. Upon purchase of a production license key this license can be applied to the PSG to upto 4000 concurrent users, based on server capacity. The license is provided in increments of 50 concurrent users. Please refer to the PSG-EL data sheet for an overview of the features available in the image. |
