IMS is a single, standardized framework created by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) that was designed to enable real-time multimedia services -- such as voice, video, data and messaging services - over an all IP-based network. By offering an open, standards-based network and services infrastructure, IMS addresses the challenge created by multiple disparate technologies and proprietary solutions. IMS is a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)-based overlay network that enables any type of session (voice, video, text, application, and data) to be combined in a single packet switched network. In short, IMS can deliver multimedia service to any access type by leveraging an IP core network.
Pronto's Converged Services Suite is IMS-ready, allowing service providers to lower operating costs, optimize network capacity and introduce new multimedia services. Pronto's product portfolio provides additional capabilities to the IMS standard, including:
- A centralized subscriber repository that securely manages user profiles in a single database
- Support of multiple authentication schemes and service profiles
- Enhanced service control capabilities that enable operators to exploit a wide range of subscriber information, such as access type, presence, location and device type, across services and applications
- Advanced billing capabilities across services
- End-to-end Quality of Service controls
